IFS (International Food Standard): needs to be approved by suppliers for distributors in France and Germany. Other countries like Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Italy are also choosing this norm.
British distributors and retailers are responsible for the security of their food products commercialized with their own brand. The norm BRC (British Retail Consortium, the technical standard for companies supplying retailer branded food products) assures that their suppliers meet the requirements that guaranty safe and healthy food.
The norm comes from the International Organization for Standardization. It is based at the improvement of quality and satisfaction of the consumer. The purpose is to improve quality of the products by improving the organization of the company.
Protocol created by the bigger supermarket chains that operate in different countries in Western Europe. Its purpose is to increase the consumers’ confidence and the health of the products, developing Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) which must be followed by the producers. Eurep focuses on the safety and health of the food products and the traceability of the product until its place of origin. Also it refers to the requirements about using pesticides, the security of the employers and the fulfillment of the national labour laws.
